On Tuesday, the Indian Navy successfully conducted a medical evacuation of a critically injured Chinese mariner from the bulk carrier *Zhong Shan Men* off Mumbai. The operation was initiated following a distress call received by the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai, which reported that the 51-year-old mariner was suffering from severe blood loss due to a critical injury.
In response to the emergency, the MRCC coordinated with the Indian Navy and launched a Seaking helicopter from INS Shikra at 5:50 a.m. Despite challenging conditions, including winds exceeding 35 knots and the ship's heavy roll, the helicopter managed to airlift the patient.
The Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat, located nearby, was also redirected to assist in the operation. The injured mariner was safely transported to INS Shikra and then transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
The swift and coordinated response by the MRCC, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard ensured the successful and timely evacuation of the mariner.
