In Bihar's Bagaha, around 150 workers, including elderly individuals, women, and children, became trapped in floodwaters due to rising levels in the Gandak River following heavy rainfall. The incident occurred as these daily-wage workers were crossing the river to reach their fields.
Upon receiving the alert, the local administration swiftly deployed State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to the site. As of now, approximately 40 individuals have been rescued by the SDRF teams using four boats provided by the state administration.
The rescue operations are ongoing, with the SDRF personnel working diligently to ensure the safe extraction of all stranded workers. The local authorities have urged patience among the affected people and advised them to remain in safe locations until the situation stabilizes.
According to reports from the Water Resources Department, several major rivers in Bihar, including the Kosi, Mahananda, Bagmati, Gandak, Kamla Balan, and Kamla, have risen above the danger mark or touched warning levels in various areas. For instance, the Gandak River in Gopalganj and Sidhwalia is reported to be flowing above the danger mark, while similar situations are observed with the Kamla Balan River in Madhubani, Lakhnaur, and Jhanjharpur, as well as the Kamla River in parts of Madhubani and Jainagar.
The state continues to monitor the situation closely and is actively engaged in managing the flood-affected regions and ensuring the safety of its residents.
