According to Mukesh Ambani at AGM 2024, Jio has made India the world's largest data market

At the 2024 Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), chairman Mukesh Ambani placed significant emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the company's future. The event, livestreamed on August 29, began with an AI-generated version of Ambani, symbolizing the central theme of the meeting. Ambani described AI as “the most evolutionary progress for the human race” and highlighted the stark developmental disparities that need to be addressed as AI advances.

Ambani revealed that Reliance has already integrated AI deeply into its operations, developing an "AI native digital infrastructure" across all its businesses. He stressed that AI should be accessible to everyone, coining the term "Connected Intelligence" to emphasize that AI should not be confined to premium devices but should be available with low latency to all users.

A key highlight of the AGM was the introduction of "JioBrain," a comprehensive suite of tools and platforms that spans the entire AI lifecycle. According to Ambani, JioBrain will accelerate AI adoption within Jio, enhancing the company’s ability to understand trends and provide better services to its customers.

In line with making AI accessible, Ambani announced the "Jio AI-Cloud Welcome offer," which will provide Jio users with up to 100 GB of free cloud storage starting from Diwali this year. This offer aims to provide a powerful and affordable solution for cloud storage and AI-powered services.

Additionally, Ambani introduced Jio TvOS, a new operating system for Jio's set-top box that promises a personalized and immersive home entertainment experience with features like Ultra HD 4K video, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. The updated "Hello Jio" voice assistant, integrated with advanced AI, will simplify content discovery and device control, while the Jio App Store will offer a variety of apps across lifestyle, fitness, and education.

Another innovative service announced was "Jio Phonecall AI," which simplifies the use of AI in phone calls by recording and storing calls in Jio Cloud, transcribing conversations into text, summarizing, and translating them into different languages. This service is particularly inclusive, supporting hearing-impaired users by converting speech to text.

Ambani also provided updates on Jio's development in India, announcing that Jio now has 490 million users, with each user averaging 30GB of data usage per month—a 33% year-on-year increase in data traffic. He noted that Jio has transformed India into the largest data market, carrying 8% of global mobile traffic. Jio also has over 30 million digital broadband and television users, making it one of the largest home service providers globally.

The chairman further highlighted the completion of the pan-India rollout of Jio True 5G technology, which now reaches every corner of India. With more than 130 million Jio True 5G users, Ambani claimed that Jio has achieved the world’s fastest 5G adoption. Additionally, Reliance added 1.7 lakh jobs last year, bringing the company’s total headcount to 6.5 lakh employees.

Overall, the AGM underscored Reliance's commitment to driving India’s transformation into a deep-tech nation, with AI playing a pivotal role in this journey.
