According to Taapsee Pannu, she wasn't the original pick for Haseen Dillruba

In a recent and candid revelation, Taapsee Pannu shared that her role as Rani in the film *Haseen Dillruba* was originally intended for another actress, adding an intriguing twist to the film’s casting story. This revelation has sparked interest among fans and critics alike, as it underscores the film’s unconventional approach to casting.

Taapsee Pannu, known for her diverse and dynamic roles, expressed her excitement about stepping into a role that wasn’t initially meant for her. She found this opportunity particularly thrilling because it allowed her to approach the character from a fresh and unexpected perspective. Pannu revealed that she had initially shown interest in the project when it was first discussed with the film's writer and director, Kanika Dhillon. However, during a period when Pannu was away working on another project, the role was offered to a different actress.

When Pannu returned to the film’s orbit, she was surprised and delighted to find that Dhillon had reached out to her again, inviting her to a script narration. Reflecting on this turn of events, Pannu recounted, “I had heard from Kanika that she had a story of this sort. I had told Kanika that I was keen to hear it, but I went to shoot a film and when I returned, I learned that she had already narrated the film to some other actor and they were proceeding to lock things soon.” Despite this, Dhillon later contacted Pannu for a new script narration. Upon hearing the script, Pannu felt an immediate and strong connection to the role, exclaiming, “When she finished the narration, I just laughed. I told her, 'Ye meri kismat mein thi (I was meant to do this film), I had told you before.' It was an immediate yes from me.”

Pannu acknowledged that she was not the conventional choice for the role in terms of casting expectations, especially given the character's complex and multifaceted nature. She remarked, “I am not the ideal cast for it, apart from the grey part of it. Because anything grey, that is not right on paper, I am the go-to person. Apart from that, nothing was suiting my casting in the film. That was probably why I was excited.” This unconventional casting choice allowed Pannu to approach the role with a unique perspective, giving her the chance to explore new dimensions of her acting skills. She saw it as a golden opportunity to test her limits and discover new aspects of her craft.

The film, titled *Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba*, features Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, alongside Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal. Directed by Jayprad Desai, it is a direct sequel to the 2021 hit movie *Haseen Dillruba*, which was well-received for its gripping narrative and strong performances. The sequel promises to continue the engaging and suspenseful storyline of its predecessor, further exploring the intricate and dramatic elements that captivated audiences before.

*Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba* is set to release on Netflix on August 9, and the anticipation is high among fans who are eager to see how Pannu’s unique and unconventional approach to her role will enhance the film’s narrative.
