Concerning indicators? Prior to the Women's T20 World Cup, India was beset with injury worries

India's squad for the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 includes Shreyanka Patil and Yastika Bhatia, though their participation hinges on their recovery from injuries. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with India starting their campaign against Pakistan on October 6.

Shreyanka Patil has been struggling with a left-hand injury sustained during the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). She missed a few matches but returned to finish as the top wicket-taker of the tournament. However, she reinjured the same hand during the Women's Asia Cup match against Pakistan. This injury led to her being ruled out of the remaining matches in Sri Lanka. As a crucial player for India, particularly in the death overs, her fitness is essential for the team’s success. The squad includes other spin-bowling options like Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, and Asha Sobhana, with Harmanpreet Kaur and Sajeevan Sajana also providing spin support.

Yastika Bhatia, another key player, has been sidelined since April due to a left knee injury. She is undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy. Despite her injury, Yastika had a solid performance in the WPL 2024, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians (MI) with 204 runs from eight games. If she and Shreyanka are unable to participate, left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar and young wicketkeeper Uma Chetry, who are in the traveling reserves, may step in as replacements.

India’s squad for the Women's T20 World Cup includes Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Yastika Bhatia (Wicketkeeper), Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (Wicketkeeper), Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh, D Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, and Sajeevan Sajana.

The tournament promises to be a challenging yet exciting event for the Indian women's cricket team as they seek to secure their maiden T20 World Cup title.
