On Friday, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi and Education Minister Atishi met with 47 school principals from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) who recently completed a specialized training program at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). This significant interaction took place at the office of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), marking a pivotal moment in the city’s educational reforms.
During the event, the principals shared their comprehensive experiences from the IIM-Ahmedabad training, which encompassed a diverse range of topics essential for modernizing education. The discussions delved deeply into innovative teaching techniques, effective school management strategies, human resources best practices, and advanced leadership development. The principals reflected on how these insights could be integrated into their respective schools to foster a more dynamic and effective learning environment.
Education Minister Atishi outlined the overarching objective of the training initiative. She emphasized that the program was designed to enhance the leadership capabilities of the MCD principals, enabling them to implement effective educational strategies and drive positive change within their schools. She remarked, “We aim to transform MCD schools into centers of educational excellence, comparable to esteemed institutions like IIM.”
Mayor Shelly Oberoi echoed this vision, highlighting the transformative changes currently underway in MCD schools. She acknowledged the historical challenges faced by these institutions, including insufficient resources and neglect. However, Oberoi noted that substantial efforts are now being made to revitalize and upgrade these schools. She stated, “Inspired by the successes of Delhi government schools, we are committed to bringing about revolutionary changes in MCD schools. We are addressing past shortcomings and are focused on a rapid and effective rejuvenation process.”
In her address to the principals, Oberoi urged them to leverage the knowledge and skills acquired from the IIM-A training to benefit their students. She encouraged them to implement the best practices and strategies learned to enhance educational outcomes. “Now is the time to transfer the benefits of your learning to the children,” she said.
The mayor underscored the ultimate goal of the initiative: to elevate MCD schools to the same high standards as Delhi government schools. She expressed a commitment to ensuring that students from these schools achieve excellence in various fields, thereby contributing to their future success and societal progress. “Our objective is to elevate MCD schools to match the excellence of Delhi government schools so that our students can excel and make significant contributions in all fields,” Oberoi concluded.
