In Rajasthan's Hindaun, heavy rain creates a condition similar to flooding

The situation in Hindaun, Rajasthan, has become increasingly dire as relentless heavy rain has led to a flood-like condition in the city, completely disrupting daily life. With water levels rising up to 5 to 6 feet in many areas, residents are struggling to cope with the devastation brought on by the continuous downpour.

The flooding has had a particularly severe impact on vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and children living in low-lying regions. The main market and the municipal council office in Hindaun are among the areas submerged, highlighting the widespread nature of the disaster. Even the Higher Secondary School has not been spared, with rising waters affecting the facility.

Rajasthan has borne the brunt of the rainfall among the north Indian states, with the state reporting 16 deaths over the past two days—two on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Karauli district, where Hindaun is located, recorded an "exceptionally heavy rainfall" of 38 cm on Sunday, exacerbating the already critical situation.

Residents have voiced their frustration and despair over the lack of response from political and administrative officials, who have yet to visit the affected areas to assess the damage or provide much-needed relief. One resident expressed deep concern, stating, "No relief has reached us. We have been in deep trouble due to the heavy rainfall in the last three days." The sense of abandonment felt by the community is palpable, as they face the hardships brought on by the flooding without any external assistance.

The relentless rain has not only submerged streets and buildings but has also caused significant damage to homes and personal belongings. Another resident shared their distress, saying, "I have lost my belongings due to rainwater entering my home. The administration has not made any effort to reach out to us." This sentiment is echoed by many who are struggling to protect what little they have left.

The situation has prompted the regional meteorological center in Jaipur to issue warnings that several parts of the state will continue to receive heavy rain. The persistent downpour has already led to severe waterlogging in other towns, such as Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur, where schools have been closed due to the adverse conditions.

As Hindaun and other affected areas continue to grapple with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall, the lack of immediate relief and support is a growing concern. The community's resilience is being tested as they wait for any form of assistance to help them through this challenging time.
