Launched in India: Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL prices and specifications

Google has officially introduced its Pixel 9 series in India, unveiling three distinct models designed to cater to a range of user needs. These models—the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL—represent Google's latest push into the Indian market, offering a premium Android experience that emphasizes performance, cutting-edge camera technology, and long-term software support. The introduction of the Pixel 9 Pro XL appears to be a strategic move, likely inspired by Apple's current iPhone lineup, aimed at providing users with the most premium experience possible. This new addition ensures that users who desire the highest-end specifications and features can find them within the Pixel lineup, while the Pixel 9 Pro offers similar performance at a more accessible price point. For those with budget constraints, the standard Pixel 9 model delivers an all-around flagship experience at the lowest price in the series.

The Pixel 9 series is priced competitively in India, with the base model starting at ₹74,999 for the 128GB variant. The Pixel 9 Pro, positioned as the middle option, is priced from ₹94,999, while the top-tier Pixel 9 Pro XL begins at ₹1,14,999. These devices are available in an array of colors, including Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen, Peony, Hazel, and Rose Quartz, providing plenty of choices for consumers. All models will be available for purchase through major retailers such as Flipkart, Croma, and Reliance Digital, as well as select offline stores across the country.

Pre-orders for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL will commence tomorrow, with the devices expected to hit shelves starting on August 22. Meanwhile, the regular Pixel 9 Pro and the much-anticipated Pixel Fold are set to be available soon, although exact release dates have not been confirmed. In a bid to enhance customer experience, Google has also announced the opening of three Google-owned Walk-in Centers in Delhi and Bengaluru, with plans to expand to Mumbai shortly thereafter. As part of the launch offers, customers purchasing the Pixel 9 series will receive up to one year of Google One AI Premium subscription. Additionally, there are bank discount offers of up to ₹10,000 on the new Pixel devices, making them even more attractive to potential buyers by significantly reducing their effective prices.

The Pixel 9, which is the most affordable option in the lineup, comes equipped with a 6.3-inch OLED display featuring a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels. The display supports a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 60Hz to 120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals and responsive touch interactions. It also boasts impressive brightness levels, with 1800 nits of local brightness and up to 2700 nits of peak brightness. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, providing durability and resistance against scratches and drops.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9 is powered by Google's latest Tensor G4 processor, which is paired with the Titan M2 security coprocessor. This combination promises not only fast performance but also robust multi-layer hardware security. According to Google, the device is designed with built-in anti-malware and anti-phishing protection, ensuring that users' data remains safe and secure.

Google has continued its tradition of prioritizing photography with the Pixel 9 series. The Pixel 9 features a dual rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel wide lens and a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens. This setup supports Super Res Zoom up to 8x, enabling users to capture highly detailed images even from a distance. The phone is equipped with a 4700mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging and is also compatible with wireless charging. However, as with previous Pixel models, the wired charger is sold separately. The Pixel 9 comes with 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of 128GB and 256 GB. It runs on Android 14 and comes with a promise of seven years of Android OS and security updates, ensuring that users receive long-term software support.

For those looking for a step up, the Pixel 9 Pro offers a more advanced display while maintaining the same size as the standard model. It features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panel with a higher resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate that can range from 1Hz to 120Hz. This adaptive refresh rate is likely to improve battery efficiency while providing a more fluid user experience. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, ensuring durability.

The camera system on the Pixel 9 Pro is notably more advanced, featuring a triple rear camera setup. This includes the same 50-megapixel wide lens and 48-megapixel ultrawide lens as the standard model but adds a 48-megapixel telephoto lens to the mix. This addition allows for Super Res Zoom up to 30x, making it ideal for photography enthusiasts who require detailed shots. The camera system also supports up to 5x optical zoom, providing further flexibility in capturing distant subjects. The battery capacity remains at 4700mAh, with support for 45W wired charging and wireless charging. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with 16GB of RAM and offers storage capacities ranging from 128GB up to 1TB, catering to users with varying storage needs.

At the top of the lineup, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is designed for users who demand the very best. It features a larger 6.8-inch 24-bit LTPO OLED display with an impressive resolution of 1344 x 2992 pixels, providing a more immersive viewing experience. The display is capable of reaching 2000 nits of local brightness and 3000 nits of peak brightness, ensuring excellent visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. Like the Pro model, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is powered by the Tensor G4 processor and features the same triple rear camera system, capable of achieving 30x Super Res Zoom for capturing detailed images from afar.

In addition to its larger display, the Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a more substantial 5060mAh battery, which can charge up to 70 percent in just 30 minutes using Google's fast charger. The device is available with 16GB of RAM and is offered in a wide range of storage options, including 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, ensuring that users have plenty of space for apps, photos, and videos.

Overall, Google's Pixel 9 series represents a significant advancement in smartphone technology, offering users a choice of devices that cater to different needs while delivering top-tier performance, advanced camera systems, and a commitment to long-term software updates. The launch of the Pixel 9 series in India underscores Google's commitment to providing premium Android experiences to a broader audience, with devices that are designed to meet the demands of today's tech-savvy consumers.
