The CEO of Infosys speaks out about the onboarding delays. This is what he said

The onboarding delays at Infosys have caused considerable distress among the new recruits, leading to a formal complaint against the company by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a union representing IT and ITES workers. The complaint, submitted to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, brings to light significant concerns regarding the postponement of joining dates for approximately 2,000 engineering graduates from the 2022 batch.

These delays have been particularly troubling for the new hires, who were initially selected for roles as system engineers and digital specialist engineers during Infosys’s recruitment drive for the 2022-23 period. Many of these graduates received their offer letters as early as April 2022, but have since been confronted with ongoing postponements in their onboarding process. In addition to these delays, the recruits were subjected to unexpected pre-training programs and additional assessments that were not initially part of the hiring process.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has highlighted that despite meeting all required conditions, these candidates have faced prolonged uncertainty about their employment status. The union’s complaint underscores the broader systemic issues in the IT sector, where new recruits often encounter bureaucratic delays and unforeseen hurdles before commencing their roles.

In response to the concerns raised, Salil Parekh, the CEO of Infosys, has publicly assured that all job offers extended by the company will be honored. Parekh acknowledged the adjustments in joining dates but emphasized that every individual who received an offer from Infosys will eventually join the company. He reassured that the company remains steadfast in its commitment to fulfilling all offers made during the recruitment drive, despite the procedural changes.

Infosys, which reported a total employee base of 315,332 as of June 2024, is actively working to address the onboarding delays and facilitate a smoother transition for the affected graduates. The company's assurance and ongoing efforts are aimed at mitigating the anxiety experienced by the new recruits and restoring their confidence in the onboarding process.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by fresh graduates entering the job market, especially in a sector as dynamic and fast-paced as IT. As Infosys navigates these challenges, the company's commitment to resolving the issues and ensuring that all new hires can begin their careers as planned is crucial in maintaining trust and morale among its workforce.
