Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their operations as multiple encounters are currently underway in the districts of Kupwara and Rajouri. In a separate but related development, a third encounter erupted in the Lathi village of Rajouri district. Security forces launched a search operation in the general areas of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal, following credible reports of terrorist movement. The operation, which began around 9:30 PM on Wednesday night, led to an exchange of gunfire when contact was established with the militants at approximately 11:45 PM. The situation remains fluid, with additional forces being deployed to strengthen the cordon around the area, where two to three terrorists are believed to be holed up.
The ongoing operations have heightened the sense of urgency as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for its Assembly elections, scheduled to take place in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The elections are seen as a critical test of the region's security and stability, with the results expected to be declared on October 4.
