Sink, who was just 14 when she began filming the series, has grown up on the *Stranger Things* set and has been working intensely on the final season. Although she was cautious not to reveal too much, she teased, "They love having me run. That's all I'll say." This suggests that Max might have a more active role than merely being bedridden.
Matt Duffer, one of the show's creators, confirmed that Max will indeed play a significant role in Season 5. However, he refrained from disclosing specific details about how her character will be integrated into the story. Duffer praised Sink's acting skills, particularly her emotional depth. He noted, "I think she’s grown just more confident as an actor and in her choices. We did film a scene the other day with her that was just absolutely heartbreaking. I don’t know how she hits those notes."
Sink also hinted at the demanding nature of her work on the show, saying, "I've been working all of last week, and I'm like, 'Oh my God, I forgot how hard this show is'." This suggests that her character will indeed be actively involved, contrary to her previous coma state.
Max was introduced in Season 2, but it was in Season 4 that she became a central figure, fighting against Vecna and suffering severe injuries. Despite her valiant efforts and the support of her friends, including Eleven, Max remained in a coma at the end of the season.
