Anant Ambani gives a 20 kg gold crown worth Rs 15 crore to Lalbaugcha Raja

On Thursday evening, the grand unveiling of Lalbaugcha Raja took place, marking the start of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Mumbai. The much-anticipated event featured the iconic Ganesh idol adorned with a remarkable 20kg gold crown, generously donated by Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation. This opulent crown, valued at an impressive Rs 15 crore, added a spectacular touch to the celebrations.

Lalbaugcha Raja, often hailed as Mumbai's most beloved Ganesh idol, draws enormous crowds of devotees who come to pay their respects and seek blessings during the ten-day Ganesh festival. The festival, which began on September 7, sees a vibrant array of Ganesh idols consecrated in homes and public places throughout Maharashtra, symbolizing the joyous spirit of the occasion.

Anant Ambani, along with the Reliance Foundation, has a long-standing tradition of supporting Lalbaugcha Raja. Their contribution of the gold crown was a highlight of the unveiling ceremony, underscoring their deep-seated devotion to the festival and their commitment to supporting this significant cultural event. The gold crown was revealed and placed upon the idol as part of the ceremonial first look, adding to the grandeur of the proceedings.

Balasaheb Kamble, President of the Lalbaugcha Raja mandal, expressed immense pride and gratitude for the Ambani family's generosity. He highlighted their enduring association with the Mandal and acknowledged their substantial contributions to the festival. Kamble emphasized the long-standing relationship between the Ambani family and the mandal, and their continued involvement in the immersion yatra of Lalbaugcha Raja, which concludes the festival.

The Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, responsible for managing the idol, was established in 1934 at Putlabai Chawl. The mandal has been a cornerstone of Mumbai’s Ganesh celebrations, and for over 80 years, the Kambli family has been dedicated to the care and management of the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganapati idol. Their efforts have ensured the continuity and vibrancy of this revered tradition, making Lalbaugcha Raja a central figure in Mumbai's cultural and religious life.
