Asian Champions Trophy hockey: Dominant India defeats Korea to set up final against China

India stormed into the final of the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament with a resounding 4-1 victory over South Korea in the semi-final, held at the Mogi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China, on Monday, September 16. This impressive win has secured India's place in the final, where they will face the host nation, China, on Tuesday, September 17, in what promises to be an exciting showdown.

In the semi-final, India demonstrated a high level of skill and precision, particularly in their attacking play. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was instrumental in the team's success, scoring twice and showcasing his exceptional drag-flicking ability. His first goal came in the second quarter when he expertly converted India's second penalty corner of the match. Harmanpreet's second goal was scored in the final minute of the third quarter, following a handling error by the South Korean goalkeeper, which allowed him to capitalize on the opportunity.

Uttam Singh also made a significant impact by opening the scoring for India in the first quarter. He deftly deflected a cross from the left, putting India ahead early in the game. Jermanpreet Singh's contribution was equally notable, as he scored a stunning goal at the start of the third quarter. Controlling a long ball from the left side, he delivered a powerful strike into the net, further solidifying India's lead.

India's dominance was reflected in their statistics. They made 20 circle entries, surpassing South Korea's 16, and maintained superior possession throughout the match. Their ability to convert both field goals and penalty corners was crucial in securing the victory. South Korea managed to score only one goal, courtesy of Yang Jihun in the third quarter, but they struggled to sustain pressure on the Indian defense, which remained solid and well-organized throughout the game.

Earlier in the day, the first semi-final saw China deliver a remarkable performance against Pakistan. The match lived up to its billing as China, driven by the support of a large home crowd due to the Mooncake Festival holiday, dominated possession and created numerous early chances. The festive atmosphere and the enthusiastic crowd contributed to China's energy and focus, helping them secure a spot in the final.

As India prepares for the final against China, their performance in the semi-final has set a high standard. The team will be looking to build on their dominant display and secure the title in what is expected to be a thrilling conclusion to the tournament.
