Bopanna and Sutjiadi go to the quarterfinals of the US Open and will play Ebden-Krejcikova

India’s Rohan Bopanna, alongside Aldila Sutjiadi from Indonesia, has successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open Mixed Doubles event. Their journey to this stage came after a grueling match against the pair of John Peers and Katerina Siniakova, concluding with a score of 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7.

The match began with a difficult start for Bopanna and Sutjiadi as they were decisively beaten in the first set, 0-6. Peers and Siniakova broke their serve three times, putting them in a commanding position early on. However, Bopanna and Sutjiadi showcased remarkable resilience. They fought back vigorously in the second set, which was fiercely contested and eventually ended in a 6-6 tie, forcing a tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, Bopanna and Sutjiadi managed to turn the tide, securing the set 7-5. This comeback pushed the match into a super tiebreak, where the Indian-Indonesian duo exhibited their strategic acumen and clutch performance, ultimately winning 10-7 to seal their place in the quarterfinals.

Their victory sets up an intriguing quarterfinal matchup against Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova. Ebden, who is also Bopanna’s partner in the Men’s Doubles, will face Bopanna on September 3. The matchup will add an extra layer of intensity, given their existing partnership and the stakes involved.

In the Men’s Doubles, Bopanna and Ebden are scheduled to play against the Argentinean team of Máximo González and Andrés Molteni in the pre-quarterfinals. The duo, having already won the Men’s Doubles title at the Australian Open earlier this year, demonstrated their formidable skills by defeating Roberto Carballés Baena and Federico Coria in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Yuki Bhambri is also in action, teaming up with Albano Olivetti to compete against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos later today at Grandstand. Bhambri’s performance in this match will be crucial for continuing India's strong presence in the tournament.

In contrast, N. Sriram Balaji and his Argentine partner Guido Andreozzi have been knocked out of the competition. Their journey ended with a defeat to Michael Venus and Neal Skupski in straight sets, 6(4)-7, 4-6, concluding their campaign at the US Open for this year. Balaji and Andreozzi's exit highlights the challenges and competitiveness of the tournament as the remaining players aim to make their mark in the final stages.
