DK Shivakumar to visit Washington: Tour personal, no meeting with leaders

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced that he will be visiting Washington, DC, with his family from September 8 to September 15. He has clarified that the purpose of his trip is purely personal and has firmly denied reports suggesting that he will be meeting former US President Barack Obama or Vice President Kamala Harris during his stay.

In his statement, Shivakumar addressed the media speculation and clarified that his visit is intended for private matters and not for any official or political engagements. "I am traveling to the US along with my family until September 15. Media reports suggesting that I will be meeting Barack Obama and Kamala Harris are incorrect. This trip is purely personal," he said, emphasizing that there are no scheduled meetings with high-profile US leaders.

The timing of Shivakumar’s visit coincides with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s tour of the United States. Gandhi, who arrived in Texas on September 8 for a three-day visit, is set to engage in various interactions and meetings in both Washington, DC and Dallas. His itinerary includes events at the University of Texas among other engagements. Despite the proximity of their trips, Shivakumar has stressed that his visit does not intersect with Gandhi’s activities and remains focused on personal matters.

Shivakumar’s clarification is aimed at dispelling any misconceptions about the nature of his trip and ensuring that there is no confusion about his itinerary. The media reports suggesting high-profile meetings have been categorically denied, underscoring the personal nature of his visit.

This announcement follows a period of increased attention on political and diplomatic activities involving Indian leaders. With Shivakumar’s trip being a personal one, it is intended to address private affairs rather than engaging in diplomatic or political discussions with US officials.
