Four people tested positive for narcotics following raids at five pubs in Hyderabad

In a decisive effort to address the growing concern of drug abuse in Hyderabad's vibrant nightlife, excise officials executed a series of high-profile raids at five popular pubs in the city on Friday. This operation was spearheaded by Excise Enforcement Director VB Kamalasan Reddy and marked a significant step in the ongoing battle against illegal drug consumption.

The targeted pubs included some of Hyderabad's well-known establishments such as Quorum Club, located in Sherlingampally, and Babylon, situated in Jubilee Hills. These venues, renowned for their bustling atmospheres and high foot traffic, were scrutinized to uncover potential drug abuse among patrons.

During the raids, a total of 33 individuals were subjected to drug tests using advanced detection kits. The results revealed that four of these individuals had tested positive for the presence of drugs. This finding underscores the persistence of drug-related issues within the city's nightlife sector.

Specifically, the testing revealed that two out of seven individuals at Quorum Club and two out of twelve individuals at Babylon were found to have consumed illegal substances. The four people who tested positive were from diverse regions, including Warangal in Telangana, Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, and Moosapet and Charminar within Hyderabad. This geographical spread highlights the broad reach of the problem beyond local boundaries.

The raids were conducted by a specialized team that included Joint Commissioner SY Qureshi, Assistant Commissioner R Kishan, and Anil Kumar Reddy. Their efforts were supported by the Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG NAB) Police and the Excise Police, reflecting a coordinated approach to tackling the issue.

In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability, the Excise Department has made available videos and photographs documenting the raids. These materials provide a detailed account of the procedures followed and the rigorous measures taken during the operation. The release of these visuals aims to reassure the public and demonstrate the authorities' commitment to combating drug abuse effectively.

The raids not only serve as a significant deterrent against illegal drug use but also highlight the need for continued vigilance and enforcement in the nightlife sector. By targeting well-frequented establishments, the authorities are sending a clear message about their zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offenses.

This operation is part of a broader strategy to maintain public safety and ensure that entertainment venues adhere to legal standards. It underscores the dedication of law enforcement agencies to protect the community from the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a safer environment for all.
