Jagan Reddy writes to the PM amid Tirupati laddoos row: Chandrababu Naidu is a liar

YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's strongly worded letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has intensified the political tensions in Andhra Pradesh. In his letter, Reddy condemned the statements made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of making "reckless" and "politically motivated" allegations regarding the supposed adulteration of the sacred prasad at the revered Tirumala temple. Reddy argued that Naidu’s accusations were not only baseless but also deeply offensive to the millions of Hindu devotees who hold Lord Venkateshwara in high esteem. He emphasized that such unfounded claims have the potential to tarnish the sanctity and reputation of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board, a sacred institution trusted by people across the globe.

Reddy expressed grave concern over the potential consequences of these statements, cautioning that they could lead to widespread unrest among devotees if not addressed responsibly. In his letter, he appealed to PM Modi to intervene and help uncover the truth, thereby restoring the faith and trust of the millions of devotees who revere the temple. According to Reddy, Naidu’s comments, driven by political motives, had the potential to harm not only the sentiments of devotees but also the credibility of the TTD, an autonomous body charged with overseeing the temple’s management.

The YSRCP chief took great pains to highlight the independent nature of the TTD board, noting that its members come from diverse and respected backgrounds, many of whom have been recommended by Union Ministers and the chief ministers of various states. He also pointed out that some of the current trustees are affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reinforcing the notion that the board operates independently of any state government interference, including that of Andhra Pradesh. This independence, Reddy argued, ensures that the temple’s operations remain unbiased and transparent.

One of Reddy’s primary defenses against Naidu's allegations was the rigorous system of checks and balances in place to ensure the quality of the prasad offered at the temple. He explained that the ghee used in temple offerings is subject to a strict e-tendering process, followed by NABL-accredited laboratory testing and multiple layers of compliance checks before it is deemed suitable for use. Reddy noted that these quality control measures have been in place for years, even during Naidu's tenure as Chief Minister, further refuting any claims of negligence or malpractice under the YSRCP government.

Reddy cited examples of how, on multiple occasions, entire tankers of ghee had been rejected when they failed to meet the stringent quality standards set by the temple authorities. He argued that instead of spreading false claims, Naidu, as a responsible Chief Minister, should have focused on informing the public about the robustness of the checks and balances in place to safeguard the sanctity of the temple’s offerings. Reddy expressed disappointment that Naidu had chosen to act in a manner "totally devoid of social responsibility," opting instead to make politically charged statements that could damage the temple’s image.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s letter underscores the heightened political rivalry between the YSRCP and the TDP, as both leaders seek to sway public opinion ahead of the upcoming elections. The Tirumala temple, with its immense religious significance, has now become a focal point in this political battle, with Reddy positioning himself as a defender of the temple's sanctity and Naidu accused of exploiting religious sensitivities for political gain.

Reddy’s call for action from PM Modi not only seeks to protect the integrity of the TTD but also serves as a broader appeal to safeguard the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus worldwide. As the investigation into these allegations continues, the outcome could have significant political and social ramifications, further deepening the divide between Andhra Pradesh’s two leading political parties.
