Union Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a comprehensive speech at an election rally in the Ramban assembly constituency, underscoring the notable transformation in the security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. This pivotal change, Singh asserted, is a direct result of the BJP's policies and a significant improvement in the region's stability and safety.
Singh highlighted the remarkable shift in the region's security environment, noting that the prevalence of violence has decreased significantly. He pointed out that the youth in J&K are now seen engaging in constructive activities, such as using laptops and computers, rather than carrying firearms. Singh attributed this positive development to the effective governance and policies implemented by the BJP, which have fostered a safer and more stable environment.
In his address, Singh extended a welcoming message to the residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), inviting them to join India. He contrasted India's inclusive approach with Pakistan's treatment of POK residents as foreigners, citing an affidavit from Pakistan's additional solicitor general that labeled POK as foreign territory. Singh assured the people of POK that India considers them as part of its own and welcomed their integration.
Singh's visit to J&K comes on the heels of a two-day tour by Home Minister Amit Shah, who released the BJP's manifesto and engaged in various activities, including meetings with senior party leaders and addressing party workers. Singh expressed confidence that the BJP will secure a clear majority in the upcoming assembly polls, emphasizing the significance of the elections in J&K, which have garnered attention both nationally and internationally.
He praised the people of J&K for their resilience and dedication, promising that under BJP rule, the region will emerge as one of the top and most advanced states in India. Singh highlighted India's economic progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, noting that the country has advanced from the 11th to the 4th (or 5th) position globally in terms of economic strength.
Reflecting on his tenure as Home Minister, Singh recounted efforts to improve security in J&K, including leading a parliamentary delegation to engage with the Hurriyat Conference. Despite attempts to initiate dialogue for peace, Singh criticized the lack of cooperation from Hurriyat leaders and regional parties like the PDP and NC. He rejected their claims that the revocation of Article 370 would lead to disaster, asserting that the BJP's bold decision has not resulted in the predicted turmoil.
Singh defended the government's actions, emphasizing the strides made in delivering justice to marginalized groups, including women and Pakistani refugees. He highlighted recent developments, such as the G20 event in Srinagar, which rebranded the region as a tourism hotspot rather than a terrorism hotspot. Singh also mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects, such as border fencing and road and rail connectivity improvements, aimed at enhancing the region's development and security.
In closing, Singh addressed comments made by NC vice president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the hanging of Afzal Guru, suggesting that the action was necessary and justified. He reiterated the BJP's commitment to the safe return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits and expressed a vision for J&K to become a modern and progressive state in India.
