Kamala Harris and Oprah Winfrey will hold a virtual event targeting battleground states

Kamala Harris will join Oprah Winfrey for a high-profile virtual event titled "Unite for America" on Thursday, aimed at galvanizing voter support in crucial battleground states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia in the run-up to the November 5 presidential election. This event, which will be streamed live on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok, reflects a strategic effort to mobilize voters and boost Harris's campaign in these pivotal states.

The "Unite for America" event is organized by Winfrey in collaboration with Win with Black Women, an activist group dedicated to supporting Black women in political roles. The event will be broadcast from Michigan, where Harris has been concentrating her campaign efforts, particularly in the Detroit area. Winfrey, a renowned businesswoman, philanthropist, and former TV host, will co-host the event, which is designed to encourage voter registration and motivate communities to rally behind Harris.

The initiative involves a broad coalition of grassroots groups, including Latinas for Harris, Win With Black Men, and Republicans for Harris, demonstrating the extensive and diverse support Harris has garnered. The Win with Black Women group has been instrumental in the campaign, reflecting its commitment to promoting Black women in leadership roles. Harris, who is of Black and South Asian heritage, has benefited significantly from this support.

Since Harris entered the presidential race in July, grassroots efforts have been remarkably successful, with over $20 million raised for her campaign. Winfrey, who has a significant platform and influence, emphasized the critical need to engage voters and ensure that they make comprehensive plans for voting, including encouraging their families and friends to participate.

Current polling data indicates that Harris has a lead over her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, with a margin of 47% to 42%. Harris is currently ahead in key battleground states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, and North Carolina, although Trump shows stronger support in Georgia. In Arizona, the race remains tight, with the candidates effectively tied.

The event comes in the wake of President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of Harris. Following this endorsement, Win with Black Women organized a highly successful call that raised $1.5 million in just three hours, illustrating the robust financial and grassroots support Harris has mobilized. Oprah Winfrey previously addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, underscoring the stakes of the election and urging voters to prioritize decency and respect.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is scheduled to participate in a Washington event focused on combating antisemitism and will also speak at the Israeli-American Council Summit, highlighting his ongoing efforts to address various political and social issues. The "Unite for America" event is expected to be a significant moment in Harris's campaign strategy, aiming to consolidate support and drive voter engagement as the election approaches.
