Netflix is discontinuing support for certain iPhones and iPads

Netflix is poised to discontinue support for several older iPhones and iPads, aligning with its shift towards requiring devices to operate on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17. This transition will affect users of several older models, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, first-generation iPad Pro, and the 5th-generation iPad. These devices are unable to upgrade beyond iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 and will therefore be excluded from receiving new updates, features, or bug fixes for the Netflix app. Although the current version of the app will remain functional, users with these devices will miss out on future enhancements and troubleshooting improvements.

Despite this significant change, users of these older devices will still be able to access Netflix content through a web browser on their devices, ensuring that they are not completely disconnected from the streaming service. However, the absence of app updates might lead to a less optimized experience compared to users on newer devices.

This decision forms part of Netflix’s broader strategy to concentrate on newer software versions, aiming to improve the overall user experience. The details about this upcoming change were first discovered by a contributor to MacRumors, who found relevant code strings in the latest Netflix app version.

While Netflix has yet to provide a specific timeline for when support will officially end, it is expected to happen soon. Users who want to continue enjoying the latest features and updates from Netflix will need to upgrade their devices to those supporting iOS 17 or iPadOS 17.

In a related development, Reliance Jio has launched new prepaid plans that include free Netflix subscriptions, which might be particularly appealing to current or potential subscribers. The Rs 1299 Jio prepaid plan offers a substantial 2GB of daily data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. It also includes unlimited 5G data and an additional 2GB of daily 4G data, and is valid for 84 days. This plan comes with access to the Netflix Mobile pack, which is tailored for mobile viewing.

For those requiring more data, the Rs 1799 prepaid plan provides a generous 3GB of daily data, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. It also offers unlimited 5G data along with 3GB of daily 4G data, also valid for 84 days. This plan includes the Netflix Basic plan, allowing users to stream content on their devices.

Both of these Jio plans include Netflix subscriptions, enhancing the value of the mobile service and providing users with convenient access to streaming content.
