PM Modi flies for Delhi after closing up a three-day busy US trip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a highly eventful and strategic three-day visit to the United States, where he participated in crucial multilateral and bilateral engagements, solidifying India’s global standing. One of the highlights of his visit was his address at the United Nations' landmark Summit of the Future, a significant event held at a time when the world is grappling with multiple crises, including the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and the enduring Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Before leaving for India, PM Modi held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as part of India’s proactive diplomatic efforts to engage with countries affected by geopolitical upheavals. His meeting with Zelenskyy was particularly important, as Modi reiterated India's firm commitment to facilitating an early and peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. Modi stressed that India remains open to supporting efforts for peace and stability in the region and urged the conflict to come to a swift conclusion in the interest of global stability.

This was the third meeting between the two leaders in the last few months, following their interaction in Kyiv in August when Modi made a historic visit to Ukraine and their earlier conversation in June during the G7 summit in Italy. PM Modi’s consistent engagement with President Zelenskyy reflects India’s balanced stance on the Ukraine conflict, where India has called for respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also emphasizing the importance of diplomacy.

On social media platform X, Modi shared updates on his discussions with Zelenskyy, noting, "We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations. Reiterated India’s support for an early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability." Zelenskyy, in turn, expressed gratitude for India’s support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that they discussed enhancing collaboration on international platforms like the UN and G20, as well as Ukraine’s Peace Formula and the preparation for a second Peace Summit.

Modi also took the stage at the UN's Summit of the Future, where he delivered a compelling speech on the importance of global cooperation and collective action in addressing today’s challenges. He highlighted India’s commitment to multilateralism, the rule of law, and inclusive solutions that benefit all nations, especially those in the developing world. The summit, held amidst intense global conflicts, provided a platform for world leaders to reflect on the future of international governance and the need for reforms to make global institutions more representative and effective.

During his time in the US, PM Modi also attended the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he had substantive discussions with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. These discussions focused on deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, and addressing shared concerns such as maritime security, economic development, and climate change.

In his bilateral talks with Biden, Modi further strengthened the strategic partnership between India and the United States. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening ties across various sectors, including defense, technology, trade, and climate action. The Modi-Biden friendship has been widely recognized as one of the pillars of the expanding India-US relationship, with Garcetti, the US Ambassador to India, recently describing PM Modi as the most pro-American Prime Minister in Indian history and Biden as the most pro-Indian President in US history.

Modi’s US visit not only showcased India’s rising influence on the global stage but also underscored India’s role as a key player in shaping the future of international diplomacy. By engaging with leaders from different parts of the world, PM Modi has once again reaffirmed India’s position as a responsible global power, committed to fostering peace, stability, and development across regions. As he departed from the US, his visit left a lasting impact on the ongoing dialogue about the future of global governance, and India’s proactive role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues.
