PM's rally in J&K's Doda today is the first visit by Indian Prime Minister in 42 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign trail today is poised to make headlines as he addresses rallies in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district and Haryana's Kurukshetra, underscoring the significance of the upcoming Assembly elections in these regions.

Doda Rally

In Doda, Modi’s visit represents a historic moment, marking the first time in 42 years that an Indian Prime Minister has set foot in the district. The last visit by a Prime Minister to Doda was in 1982, making today’s event a notable occasion for local residents. Security arrangements are exceptionally tight across Doda and the neighboring district of Kishtwar to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the rally, which will be held at a local stadium.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, who is spearheading the BJP's election efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted the significance of Modi’s visit. The rally is expected to energize the BJP's support base in the Chenab Valley, where elections for eight Assembly seats are scheduled for September 18. These elections are part of a three-phase process, with subsequent phases on September 25 and October 1, and vote counting set for October 8. This is the first Assembly election in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a decade and follows the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, which had granted special status to the region.

Historically, the Jammu region has been a stronghold for the BJP, as evidenced by their clean sweep of all 25 seats in the 2014 Assembly elections. Modi’s visit aims to reinforce this stronghold and rally support ahead of the crucial polls.

Kurukshetra Rally

Following his Doda visit, Modi will address a rally in Kurukshetra, Haryana, a region synonymous with the epic Bhagavad Gita. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has publicly welcomed Modi, urging residents to turn out in large numbers for the event. Saini’s post on social media emphasized Modi’s stature as "the world's most popular leader" and invited the people of Haryana to show their support.

The Kurukshetra rally is scheduled for 3:45 pm and will be held at the Kurukshetra Theme Park. Haryana will hold its Assembly elections on October 5, with results to be announced on October 8. The contest in Haryana is shaping up to be a significant one, with the BJP aiming for a third consecutive term. The opposition Congress, led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is striving to regain power, particularly focusing on its strong support base in the agriculture sector.

Election Context

The Assembly elections in both Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are being closely watched, given their potential to influence regional and national political dynamics. The BJP's efforts to secure victories in these areas are part of a broader strategy to consolidate its political influence, while the opposition parties are mobilizing to challenge the BJP’s dominance.

Modi’s visits and rallies are a crucial part of the BJP's campaign strategy, aimed at swaying voter sentiment and solidifying support ahead of the elections. With tight security in place and high-stakes contests in both regions, today’s events are expected to be pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.
