Samajwadi Party leader accused of raping and blackmailing a lawyer

A serious case has been filed against Virender Bahadur Pal, a significant figure in the Samajwadi Party (SP) and former president of the Mau Bar Association, for allegedly raping a female lawyer who worked as his assistant. The complaint, lodged in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district, presents grave accusations against Pal. The female lawyer alleges that over the past year, Pal blackmailed her using explicit videos and photographs and coerced her into a sexual relationship. Additionally, she claims that he repeatedly threatened her, creating a climate of fear and intimidation.

The situation escalated when the victim reportedly had a physical altercation with Pal at the court premises just two days before filing her complaint. Following the lodging of the FIR, Pal has gone into hiding, prompting the police to initiate a manhunt to apprehend him. The victim's medical examination has been completed, and the police have registered an FIR under relevant legal provisions that address sexual assault, physical violence, and threats.

Mau City Circle Officer (CO) Anjani Kumar Pandey provided details of the investigation, stating, "On September 7, the victim filed a complaint detailing the sexual assault, physical violence, and threats she endured. An FIR has been lodged under appropriate sections of the law. The accused, Virender Bahadur Pal, a lawyer from Chak Mehndi, Saraylakhansi, is now under investigation. The victim's medical examination has been conducted, and necessary legal actions are being pursued."

Pal's political influence is notable, given his father, Dayaram Pal, served as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) during the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government and is currently the national secretary of the SP overseeing party activities in Uttarakhand. Virender Pal's connections with top SP leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav, and Ghosi MLA Sudhakar Singh, have been widely circulated on social media, highlighting his prominent role within the party.

This incident comes in the wake of another serious case involving the SP. Nawab Singh Yadav, a former aide of Dimple Yadav, the wife of Akhilesh Yadav, was arrested on August 12 for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl. Yadav was charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act and is currently in 14-day judicial custody.

The unfolding investigations into these allegations emphasize the critical need for justice and transparency in cases involving prominent political figures. The authorities have committed to thorough investigations and swift legal action to address these serious charges, reflecting their dedication to upholding justice and accountability within the political sphere.
