Approximately 70 people were hurt in violent conflicts during the Banni celebration in Andhra's Kurnool

The Banni Utsav, a highly anticipated event that is a central part of the Dussehra festivities, is known for its traditional stick fights, where villagers from rival factions engage in fierce competition to claim the revered idols of Mala Malleswara Swamy. This year, the celebrations took place in Devaragattu village, located within the Holagunda mandal, but what is typically a vibrant display of cultural heritage devolved into chaos. Participants engaged in intense confrontations, and reports indicate that the scale of violence overwhelmingly overpowered the police’s efforts to maintain order, as rival groups clashed brutally in pursuit of the idols.
