Baba Siddique's murder: Mumbai Police arrest man who provided weapon to gunmen

In the high-profile case of Baba Siddique’s murder, Mumbai Police’s crime branch made another significant arrest on Sunday, apprehending Bhagwat Singh Om Singh, a 32-year-old scrap dealer originally from Udaipur, Rajasthan, who is currently residing in Navi Mumbai. Singh has been accused of supplying the firearm used in the fatal shooting, marking a crucial development in the investigation. With this arrest, the total number of people taken into custody in connection with the murder has reached 10, including five individuals from the Mumbai Metropolitan region who allegedly provided logistical support, including transportation, weapons, and safehouses for the suspects involved in the crime.

Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead near his son’s office in Bandra on October 12, in what appears to be a premeditated attack. According to police, three assailants were directly involved in the shooting. Two of the suspected shooters, Gurmail Baljit Singh (23) and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), were arrested shortly after the incident. However, the main shooter, identified as Shivkumar Gautam, remains on the run along with two other suspects who are believed to have played key roles in orchestrating the murder. The police have launched a manhunt for these individuals, deploying special teams to track them down.

The investigation into the killing has revealed that the suspects planned the attack meticulously, and those arrested have been charged with providing essential logistical support to ensure the execution of the murder. Bhagwat Singh is alleged to have played a critical role by supplying the firearm used in the crime. He is now in police custody until October 26, during which investigators hope to extract more information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining suspects and further details about the murder conspiracy.

Baba Siddique's murder has sent shockwaves through the political and social circles in Maharashtra. The crime branch is working on multiple leads, including the possibility of a deeper conspiracy behind the killing, and is scrutinizing both personal and political motives. Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have reassured the public that every effort is being made to bring all those responsible to justice and that the investigation will continue until all suspects are apprehended.

As the case unfolds, it has drawn attention to the broader issue of organized crime and political violence in the region, with authorities taking stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
