Hemant Soren's party, Congress to contest 70 of 81 seats in Jharkhand polls

The INDIA bloc, a coalition of the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and Left parties, has formalized its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, reflecting a united front in their bid to retain power in the state. Chief Minister Hemant Soren made the announcement, stating that 70 candidates have already been confirmed for the 81-seat Assembly, while discussions are still ongoing for the remaining 11 seats. This consensus marks a crucial milestone for the alliance, which seeks to strengthen its political foothold amid growing competition from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

In his statement, Soren emphasized that the decision was reached after considering "all aspects and perspectives" within the alliance. He praised the spirit of cooperation among the INDIA bloc partners, which includes the Congress, RJD, JMM, and the Left parties, underscoring their shared vision of governance. He assured that the remaining 11 seats would be finalized soon, following further consultations with alliance partners. This approach highlights the bloc's determination to avoid internal divisions and present a cohesive strategy ahead of the elections.

The Congress also expressed confidence in the alliance's ability to secure another term in Jharkhand. State Congress leader and Minister Banna Gupta confirmed that the seat-sharing process went smoothly, with the party leadership and the INDIA bloc team working in harmony. He reiterated the coalition's commitment to winning the trust of Jharkhand's electorate and maintaining the stronghold that Hemant Soren's government has built over the years. "Everything is systematic and running smoothly. There are no doubts or uncertainties," Gupta remarked, underscoring the unity among the partners.

The upcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls, set to be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20, are expected to be a high-stakes battle for both the INDIA bloc and its main rival, the NDA. With just a few weeks left for the elections, political observers are closely watching the developments on both sides. The counting of votes and announcement of results will take place on November 23, with the outcome likely to shape the political landscape of Jharkhand for the next five years.

The NDA, meanwhile, announced its seat-sharing formula on Friday, with the BJP fielding candidates in 68 constituencies, the AJSU Party contesting 10 seats, the JD(U) in 2 seats, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) in 1 seat. The BJP-led alliance is expected to mount a strong challenge to the INDIA bloc, leveraging its extensive organizational machinery and electoral strategy. Both alliances are vying for control of Jharkhand’s 81-member Assembly, and the competition is expected to be fierce, with issues of governance, development, and economic challenges playing central roles in voter decision-making.

As the election campaigns intensify, both the INDIA bloc and the NDA are expected to highlight their achievements, promises, and visions for Jharkhand’s future. The INDIA bloc, under Hemant Soren’s leadership, will likely focus on its governance track record, social welfare schemes, and efforts to uplift marginalized communities. Conversely, the NDA will aim to capitalize on national leadership and promises of economic growth and development.

With seat-sharing discussions nearly complete, the INDIA bloc is preparing to finalize its campaign strategy and hit the ground running in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive electoral contest.
