Kangana Ranaut's Emergency has received a censor certificate; the release date will be announced soon

Kangana Ranaut recently shared the exciting news that her highly anticipated film *Emergency* has been cleared by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), marking a significant milestone in the movie's journey toward its release. In a social media post on October 17, Kangana expressed her gratitude to her fans and well-wishers for their unwavering support and announced that the film has officially received its censor certificate. The final release date, however, is still under wraps and will be revealed soon.

"We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie *Emergency*, we will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support," she wrote, signaling that the long wait for the film’s release is nearing its end.

The news of the film's clearance came after Zee Studios, the production house backing *Emergency*, confirmed to the Bombay High Court that they had agreed to make the necessary changes as recommended by the CBFC's revising committee. The film was granted a U/A certificate after a total of 13 modifications were made, which included the removal of certain violent scenes and the alteration of a dialogue that referred to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as "saint" or "sant." The revising committee's decision followed multiple complaints from Sikh groups, who voiced concerns about the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film.

Addressing the changes, Kangana's team worked diligently to comply with the CBFC's suggestions to move forward with the film's release. Sources close to the production revealed that *Emergency* is likely to hit theaters after the Punjab elections in November. The decision to wait until the elections are over was made to avoid any controversy and ensure a smooth release, particularly given the sensitivity of the film's subject matter. "The film is really close to everyone's heart, and the audience should get to watch it without any hindrances. After much consideration, the team decided that releasing the film during a calmer time, post-elections, is the best approach," a source told India Today Digital.

*Emergency* was originally slated for release on September 6, 2024. The film, directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, delves into one of the most controversial periods in Indian political history—the Emergency, which lasted from June 1975 to March 1977. Kangana takes on the challenging role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the film promises to shed light on the events that unfolded during this tumultuous time in India's democracy.

In addition to Kangana, the film boasts an ensemble cast that includes veteran actors like Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik, who will appear in one of his final roles. The film has been highly anticipated, with fans eager to see how Kangana tackles such a complex and iconic figure in Indian history. Her portrayal of Indira Gandhi has already generated buzz due to the striking resemblance she shares with the late Prime Minister, thanks to the impressive efforts of the film’s makeup and costume departments.

Kangana has been vocal about the challenges of making *Emergency*, both in terms of the subject matter and the immense responsibility of accurately portraying a leader like Indira Gandhi. The film has undergone rigorous scrutiny and significant edits to ensure it aligns with historical facts while maintaining respect for all communities depicted.

With the CBFC’s approval now in hand, *Emergency* is poised for a release that could spark renewed discussion about one of the most polarizing periods in India's modern history. The film’s focus on power, control, and the suppression of dissent during the Emergency era offers a compelling narrative that resonates with contemporary discussions on governance and political leadership.
