KT Rama Rao (KTR) directed sharp criticism towards Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, focusing on the silence surrounding alleged abuses by the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government. KTR specifically targeted Gandhi for not speaking out against what he described as atrocities committed against tribal women and farmers in the state, urging him to take a stand and rein in Revanth Reddy's actions.
As a former Telangana Minister and son of the former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, KTR did not hold back in his critique, highlighting what he saw as a failure on Gandhi's part to address the issues affecting marginalized groups in Telangana. During a press briefing, he emphasized the Congress leader's lack of response to the alleged injustices happening in the state, expressing disappointment that Gandhi remained indifferent while tribal women, farmers, and other vulnerable communities suffered under the current administration.
KTR, speaking to the press in Delhi, explained that his visit aimed to bring national attention to the plight of Telangana's tribal women and farmers. He was particularly critical of Gandhi's silence, noting, "Rahul Gandhi frequently discusses the welfare of farmers, BCs (Backward Classes), Dalits, and tribals, yet he has remained conspicuously silent about the hardships facing tribal women in Revanth Reddy’s constituency of Kodangal." KTR pointed out the inconsistency between Gandhi’s public commitments to uplift marginalized communities and his inaction in the face of what he described as ongoing oppression in Telangana.
In a direct challenge, KTR questioned Gandhi’s credibility, saying, "Rahul Gandhi advocates for Bharat Jodo, but what about the tribal women who are suffering in a state governed by his own party? Where is the Congress's moral high ground now?" He accused the Congress leader of hypocrisy and engaging in selective activism, implying that Gandhi’s focus on national issues seemed disconnected from the struggles occurring under his party's rule.
KTR further accused the Congress party of abandoning the state's tribals and farmers, questioning why Gandhi had not condemned instances of police brutality or the illegal seizure of land by Telangana's authorities. He called for Gandhi to demonstrate his dedication to the poor by taking concrete action. "If Rahul Gandhi genuinely cares about the welfare of disadvantaged groups, he should step in, address these abuses, and pressure Revanth Reddy to resolve the injustices," KTR stated, underscoring his expectation for accountability from the Congress leadership.
