A devastating accident took place on Saturday in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district, where a Hyundai Creta collided with an autorickshaw, resulting in the tragic deaths of seven people. Among the victims were six members of a family, including a newly-wed couple, and the driver of the autorickshaw. The crash occurred on National Highway 74 in Dhampur when the Creta, which was attempting to overtake another vehicle, suddenly changed lanes and crashed into the autorickshaw at high speed. The violent impact caused the deaths of six passengers, including four men, two women, and a young girl, who were instantly killed on the spot. The driver of the autorickshaw, who had been severely injured, later passed away during medical treatment.
The family, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been returning from a wedding in Jharkhand when the tragic accident occurred. The police confirmed that there were seven people traveling in the autorickshaw when the collision took place. The driver of the autorickshaw had been attempting to navigate through the traffic when the Creta suddenly veered into their lane, leaving little time for the driver to react. The force of the collision was so intense that it caused the immediate deaths of most of the passengers, with the driver of the autorickshaw being rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Bijnor Superintendent of Police Abhishek confirmed that a post-mortem of all the deceased is currently underway as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident. He stated that the police were continuing their efforts to collect evidence and details about the incident to determine whether any further action should be taken against the Creta driver. The authorities are also investigating whether the vehicle involved in the accident had been speeding or if other factors contributed to the crash.
The tragic event has left the entire region in shock, with the local community expressing grief over the loss of life. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and offered his support. The Chief Minister's office released a statement emphasizing that the state government was doing everything possible to ensure that the injured received proper medical attention and that relief efforts were swiftly initiated. Adityanath also urged district administration officials to coordinate with the local authorities and expedite the necessary relief measures.Â
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed officials to provide immediate medical care to anyone injured in the incident and to ensure that all necessary support was given to the bereaved families. His office further assured that the families would receive all possible assistance from the state government during this difficult time. The local police and emergency services have also been working tirelessly to provide aid to the survivors and investigate the causes of the accident.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety in Uttar Pradesh, with several accidents occurring in the state due to reckless driving, speeding, and lane violations. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially on busy highways, to avoid such accidents in the future. Road safety campaigns are expected to be ramped up in the coming days to ensure the safety of all road users.
