The Australian PM tells PM Modi that he is hosting Rohit Sharma's men in Canberra

The Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, recently had the honor of meeting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra. This meeting was part of the traditional and cordial interaction between the Indian team and the Australian PM's XI, held at the Australian Parliament. The Australian Prime Minister’s official social media handle shared a series of images capturing the moment, which highlighted the cheerful and light-hearted exchanges between the two sides. Albanese, in his remarks, conveyed a personal message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his confidence in the Australian team’s chances in their upcoming matches. "Big challenge ahead for the PM's XI at Manuka Oval this week against an amazing Indian side. But as I said to PM Narendra Modi, I'm backing the Aussies to get the job done," Albanese was quoted saying, highlighting the friendly yet competitive spirit that characterizes the rivalry between the two cricketing powerhouses.

The meeting itself saw a fun and engaging atmosphere. Albanese took the opportunity to engage with several key Indian players, offering light-hearted compliments and jokes. He specifically took time to compliment fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, praising his unique and unpredictable bowling style, which has been a standout feature in India’s recent successes. Albanese remarked that Bumrah’s style was “very different from anyone else,” underscoring the fast bowler’s ability to consistently baffle batters with his exceptional skill and variations. The interaction continued with some cheeky exchanges, especially when Albanese joked with Virat Kohli about the first Test match in Perth, where India defeated Australia by a huge margin of 295 runs. "Good time in Perth, as if we weren't suffering enough at that point," Albanese humorously recalled, referencing the heavy defeat suffered by the Australian side. Kohli, known for his sharp wit, responded with, "Always gotta add some spice to it," acknowledging the fiery spirit that India brings to the field. Albanese, in a playful manner, connected the word "spice" with India’s cricketing culture, drawing laughter from the players and officials present.

The 1st Test match was indeed a memorable one for India, with Kohli achieving his 30th Test century and his seventh century in Australia. His remarkable innings played a key role in India’s dominance over Australia in that match. Bumrah also played a pivotal role in the victory, delivering a standout performance with the ball. He was named Player of the Match after taking eight wickets in the game, including a crucial spell that helped dismantle the Australian batting line-up.

Following the engaging interaction with Albanese, the Indian team, which had been in Perth, traveled to Canberra, arriving on November 28, 2024. The team is now gearing up for a crucial two-day pink-ball Test against the Australian PM's XI at the Manuka Oval. This match is not only an opportunity for India to fine-tune their preparations but also a vital warm-up before the much-anticipated day-night Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The second Test of the series is set to begin on December 6, 2024, at the Adelaide Oval, where India will aim to extend their dominance and claim another series win on Australian soil. The Indian team’s approach to the pink-ball Test in Canberra will focus on acclimatizing to the unique conditions that come with day-night Tests, ensuring that their key players are fully prepared for the challenges ahead. The encounter promises to be an exciting and competitive one, as both teams look to get the upper hand ahead of the main event in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
