Airtel down: Users of Airtel broadband and mobile devices are unable to use the internet or make calls

The ongoing Airtel network outage is causing widespread disruption, with thousands of users across India reporting service failures. Both Airtel mobile and broadband customers are impacted, leaving them unable to make phone calls, send text messages, or access the internet. According to Downdetector, complaints about the outage began to rise significantly around 10:30 am today, indicating a sharp increase in service failures. Users have flooded platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences, with many reporting that their devices displayed a “No Network” message for prolonged periods, further indicating the depth of the issue.

The outage is particularly problematic for mobile internet users, with around 40 percent of complaints coming from individuals who are unable to connect to mobile data services. Another significant portion of complaints—around 30 percent—reported a complete loss of Airtel services, including both mobile and broadband. Approximately 22 percent of users mentioned that they had no signal at all, leading to frustration among customers who rely on Airtel for their communications and data needs. These problems are reportedly affecting several cities, confirming that this is not a localized issue but a widespread network failure.

Airtel’s role in India’s telecom landscape is vital, with the company holding a significant market share. As of October 2024, Airtel has a user base of 385.41 million, making up 33.5 percent of the market. This large user base means that the impact of this outage is being felt by millions of individuals and businesses alike. Airtel’s 5G network has also been expanding rapidly, with the 5G user base reaching 90 million by the end of Q1 of the 2024-25 financial year. Given the growing demand for high-speed data services, an outage of this magnitude can cause substantial disruptions, not only affecting personal communication but also hindering business operations, online work, and educational activities.

Many users rely on Airtel’s broadband and mobile services for everything from daily communications to professional tasks, such as remote working and accessing cloud-based services. The timing of this outage is particularly disruptive as users prepare for important work, meetings, and other activities that depend on stable internet connectivity. The loss of signal, slow connectivity, and inability to access mobile internet services can cause significant delays and frustrations, especially for those using Airtel for business or study purposes.

Airtel has yet to provide a clear timeline for when the issue will be resolved, but customers are hoping for swift action to restore service. Given the scale of the outage and its widespread impact, this is a critical issue for the company to address to maintain customer trust and loyalty. As one of the largest telecom providers in India, Airtel will need to ensure that its infrastructure can handle high demands and remain resilient in the face of such challenges.

The response from Airtel and the resolution of this issue will be closely watched, not only by customers but also by industry experts who are monitoring the reliability of telecom networks in India. For now, users are left without a reliable service, causing an inconvenience that could affect both personal and professional lives until full service is restored.
