Attending the 'Hala Modi' event in Kuwait: Observing a miniature version of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian diaspora at the grand ‘Hala Modi’ event in Kuwait, delivered a heartfelt and resonant speech, emphasizing the deep-rooted cultural, historical, and economic ties between India and Kuwait. Speaking at the Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex in Kuwait City, the Prime Minister expressed his joy at seeing the vibrant diversity of Indians who have made Kuwait their home and likened the gathering to a "mini-Hindustan," a testament to India's unity in diversity.

PM Modi began his address by sharing his sense of belonging and the warmth he experienced upon arriving in Kuwait, noting how the Indian community, representing various states, created an atmosphere reminiscent of home. "Just 2–2.5 hours ago, I arrived in Kuwait, and ever since setting foot here, I have felt an extraordinary sense of belonging and warmth all around. You all have come from various states of India, but seeing you here feels like a 'Mini Hindustan' has gathered before me," he said to thunderous applause from the audience.

Reflecting on the historic relationship between India and Kuwait, PM Modi delved into the centuries-old trade links that have been a cornerstone of their bilateral ties. He spoke of how Kuwaiti traders learned the Gujarati language, authored books in it, and brought their world-famous pearls to Indian markets. India, in turn, supplied goods such as horses and other commodities, symbolizing the mutual respect and cooperation that defined their interactions. "Our elders in Gujarat still recall these connections, showcasing the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations," he said, underscoring the shared history that binds the countries.

Highlighting the significance of his visit, PM Modi noted that it marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in over four decades. "Today, personally, this moment is very special for me. After 43 years, more than four decades, a PM of India has come to Kuwait. For you all, coming to India takes four hours, but for the PM, it took four decades," he said, eliciting laughter and appreciation from the crowd. His words reflected the symbolic importance of this trip, aimed at rekindling and strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora and Kuwait at large.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the alignment between India's developmental journey and Kuwait's vision for economic dynamism. He noted that Kuwait’s aspiration to become a hub of trade and innovation aligns seamlessly with India’s focus on bolstering innovation, technology, and skill development. "Kuwait, through trade and innovation, wants to be a dynamic economy. India is also focusing on innovation and strengthening its economy. India has the skill, technology, innovation, and manpower that 'New' Kuwait needs," he said, signaling India’s readiness to partner with Kuwait in its growth ambitions.

PM Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Kuwait for its support during India’s struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Recalling the assistance provided by Kuwait in the form of liquid oxygen supplies, he said, "I remember that Kuwait sent us liquid oxygen supply when we were going through the COVID-19 pandemic. We are very grateful." This acknowledgment of Kuwait’s generosity highlighted the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity between the two nations during times of crisis.

During his visit to Kuwait, the Prime Minister is scheduled to engage in a series of high-level meetings with the Emir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. These discussions aim to bolster bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, technology, and innovation. In addition to these strategic engagements, PM Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the Gulf Cup football tournament, adding a cultural and sporting dimension to his itinerary.

The Prime Minister’s address at the ‘Hala Modi’ event showcased his commitment to strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora and fostering closer relations with Kuwait. By highlighting the shared history, mutual aspirations, and avenues for collaboration, PM Modi’s speech not only celebrated the enduring relationship between the two nations but also laid the groundwork for a future of greater cooperation and shared prosperity. His words resonated deeply with the audience, leaving an indelible impression of India’s enduring warmth and goodwill toward its friends and partners in the Gulf region.
