Checks for drunk driving and parking restrictions: Delhi Police's New Year's Eve advice

Delhi is all set to welcome the year 2025, and with grand celebrations expected across the national capital, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an extensive advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety. Anticipating massive crowds, especially in popular areas such as Connaught Place and India Gate, restrictions and guidelines have been put in place to manage traffic, parking, and law enforcement effectively.

From 8 PM onwards on December 31, no vehicles will be permitted to enter Connaught Place or its surrounding areas. Key roads and intersections leading to Connaught Place, including Mandi House, Bengali Market, Patel Chowk, and Jai Singh Road, will be closed to vehicular traffic. To accommodate visitors, parking arrangements have been made at specific locations such as Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, and Panchkuian Road. However, parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and unauthorized vehicles parked in restricted zones will be towed away immediately. Visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transport due to the limited parking options.

Similar restrictions will be enforced near India Gate, where large crowds are expected. Traffic will be diverted from critical points if pedestrian movement becomes too heavy. Areas such as Rajpath, Windsor Place, and Mathura Road intersections near Purana Qila and Sher Shah Road will witness controlled vehicular access. Public transport is being promoted to reduce congestion, and authorities have emphasized the importance of using Metro services and other available means to reach these areas.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued a special advisory for motorists, urging them to avoid routes like Mathura Road and Bhairon Road, especially between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan, as these areas are likely to experience significant congestion. Visitors traveling to popular spots are advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

In addition to traffic management, the police will conduct strict checks to prevent violations and ensure public safety. Special teams will be deployed to monitor and act against drunken driving, overspeeding, reckless driving, stunt biking, and other dangerous behaviors. Violators will face stringent legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The advisory reflects a comprehensive approach to managing the city's New Year celebrations while prioritizing safety and convenience for everyone. Delhiites are urged to cooperate with authorities, follow the guidelines, and celebrate responsibly as they bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025 with joy and enthusiasm.
