Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi strongly condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and expressed concern over the issue being weaponized to spread hatred against Muslims in India. Speaking at the Agenda Aajtak event, Owaisi urged the Indian government to step in and address the matter diplomatically by engaging in dialogue with Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus. He emphasized that such violence should not become a pretext to foster communal divisions within India, questioning why Indian Muslims were being targeted and vilified for events happening in a neighboring country.
Owaisi pointed out that he had already raised the issue of violence against minorities in Bangladesh during a parliamentary session on Friday, underlining its gravity. He expressed disapproval of the ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's decision to seek refuge in India, while simultaneously issuing statements critical of the current Bangladesh government. Owaisi questioned the implications of her remarks, asking whether the Narendra Modi-led Indian government was aligning itself with Hasina’s political views or endorsing her stance against the interim regime.
Further, Owaisi criticized any attempts to personalize India’s foreign policy by tying it to individual leaders or political families. He reiterated that India's foreign policy must remain neutral, strategic, and focused on its relationship with Bangladesh as a sovereign nation, rather than being influenced by familial or personal affiliations. He warned against the dangers of allowing external matters to spill over into domestic communal tensions, stressing the need for diplomatic maturity and national unity.
Owaisi also expressed concern over the broader pattern of scapegoating Indian Muslims for issues originating outside the country. He cautioned against fostering an environment of intolerance and hate, calling for leaders to ensure that incidents abroad do not destabilize communal harmony at home. His remarks underscored the importance of a balanced and responsible approach, both in handling international matters and preserving domestic peace, as he urged the government to take proactive steps in addressing the violence against minorities in Bangladesh through official diplomatic channels.
Owaisi’s comments serve as a reminder of the complex interplay between international events and their repercussions in India, highlighting the urgent need for thoughtful and measured responses to maintain both national and regional stability.
