Instagram is set to revolutionize content creation with a new generative AI video editing feature powered by Meta's Movie Gen AI model. Expected to roll out in 2025, this tool promises to make video editing as easy as typing a simple text prompt. Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared his excitement about the feature in a recent post, showcasing how creators will soon be able to tweak nearly every aspect of their videos, from outfits to backgrounds, all without needing advanced editing skills.
In a teaser demonstration, Mosseri showed off the tool's capabilities, such as changing clothing, adding objects like a gold chain, and even transforming his appearance—like turning into a felt puppet. The AI promises to be precise, maintaining the integrity of the added elements even during rapid movements, such as when Mosseri gestures with his arms or face. This attention to detail is one of the most exciting aspects of the tool, though, as with any early demo, its real-world performance remains to be fully seen.
The Movie Gen AI model, first introduced in October, aims to preserve human identity and motion while making dramatic changes to videos. This feature enters a competitive market, taking on established tools like Adobe’s Firefly and OpenAI’s Sora, both of which have already made strides in AI-assisted video editing.
While Instagram's AI editing tool won't be available immediately, it holds the potential to drastically change how creators produce and share content. If the final product lives up to the demo, it could make Instagram an even more dynamic and user-friendly platform for creative video work, offering a new level of accessibility for creators of all skill levels.
