The Delhi Police Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the heated scuffle that erupted outside Parliament during protests involving MPs from the BJP and the Congress. Both parties have lodged complaints against each other, with accusations of physical assault, injuries, and misconduct dominating the discourse.
The incident left two BJP MPs hospitalized, including Pratap Chandra Sarangi, who reportedly sustained forehead injuries. Hemang Joshi, a BJP leader, filed a complaint accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of instigating the scuffle. This led to the police registering an FIR against Gandhi. Meanwhile, Congress has pointed fingers at the BJP, alleging that its MPs pushed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, resulting in a knee injury. Rahul Gandhi also alleged that BJP MPs blocked his entry into Parliament while wielding sticks, escalating the confrontation.
The altercation reportedly began near Parliament’s Makar Dwar, where members of both parties clashed. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed that Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP, who then fell on him, causing his injuries. Rahul Gandhi countered, stating that BJP MPs were obstructing him and threatening him as he tried to enter Parliament amidst the protests.
Adding to the controversy, Nagaland BJP MP Phangnon Konyak alleged misconduct by Rahul Gandhi, stating that his proximity and shouting during the incident made her feel uncomfortable. She has since approached the Rajya Sabha Chairman for security assurances, expressing deep distress over the situation.
The scuffle occurred amidst simultaneous protests in Parliament, with INDIA bloc MPs opposing remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr. BR Ambedkar, and BJP MPs countering those demonstrations. As tensions flared, delegations from both parties engaged with senior police officials in Delhi, pressing their respective claims and seeking action against the opposing side.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has formally addressed the issue in a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, accusing BJP MPs of physically assaulting him and causing him to fall. Both parties are now locked in a war of words, further heightening political tensions in the capital as investigations proceed.
