Richa Ali's coming-of-age drama, Girls Will Be Girls, will debut on Prime Video.

Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha’s highly anticipated project, Girls Will Be Girls, is set to stream exclusively on Prime Video starting December 18. This Indo-French joint production has already made waves globally, garnering critical acclaim and recognition at several prestigious film festivals. Produced under the banners of Pushing Buttons Studio, Dolce Vita Films, and Crawling Angle Films, the film is co-produced by Richa Chadha, Claire Chassagne, and Shuchi Talati, with Ali Fazal serving as the executive producer.

Girls Will Be Girls marks Richa and Ali’s first venture into production and also serves as the directorial debut of Shuchi Talati, who previously worked as a writer. The film introduces Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron in lead roles, both of whom are making their feature film debut. With a compelling narrative, the film explores the intricacies of adolescence, dreams, and emotional turmoil while delving into the generational divide between an 18-year-old girl named Mira and her mother, each navigating their own set of struggles.

The film’s premise revolves around Mira, an 18-year-old on a journey of rebellion and emotional conflict, juxtaposed with her mother’s own incomplete coming-of-age journey. Girls Will Be Girls is a poignant and relatable exploration of the universal themes of independence, self-discovery, and the pressures of adulthood, all through the lens of a young girl caught between the ideals of her youth and the expectations of society.

In addition to the official release date, the filmmakers have released the trailer for the film on social media, providing a visually stunning glimpse into what promises to be a memorable cinematic experience. The trailer immediately grabs the audience's attention, setting the tone for a gripping and emotionally resonant story. It highlights the raw, authentic experience of adolescence and the personal conflicts that come with growing up, making it clear that the film will leave a lasting impact.

Speaking about the film, Richa Chadha shared, “Girls Will Be Girls is not just a film for me; it’s a reflection of the shared experiences and emotional struggles that every young adult faces. We’ve worked really hard to make this a universal story about rebellion, self-discovery, and inter-generational conflict, which I believe resonates with audiences everywhere. We are thrilled to see the film receiving international recognition, and now, with its exclusive digital launch on Prime Video in India, we hope it reaches viewers who will find a piece of their own journey in Mira’s story."

Ali Fazal, who co-produced the film, echoed his wife’s sentiments, stating, “This project is incredibly special to us because it’s our first as producers. It’s been a labor of love, passion, and immense growth for both of us. The film’s success at international film festivals has been extremely motivating, and we are proud to see our vision come to life on screen. Having Girls Will Be Girls release on Prime Video, a platform that has been like a second home to us as actors, makes this even more meaningful."

Girls Will Be Girls had a successful world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it garnered significant attention, winning two awards, including the prestigious Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic Category. It also won the Special Jury Award for Acting at Sundance, the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, and was honored with Best Film awards at both the Jakarta International Film Festival and Biarritz Film Festival. The film also clinched the Transilvania Trophy for Best Film at the Transilvania International Film Festival, further solidifying its international acclaim.

This wide recognition has already positioned Girls Will Be Girls as one of the most exciting films to watch this December. With its relatable story, outstanding performances, and important themes, the film is poised to make a significant impact as it reaches audiences across India on Prime Video.
