Kannada actor Upendra's much-anticipated film UI hit the theaters today, creating a significant buzz in the film industry. This high-budget production, reportedly costing around Rs 100 crore, is expected to perform well at the box office given the excitement surrounding its release.
The film has already made a notable impact on its opening day. According to the tracking website Sacnilk, UI has grossed over Rs 4.96 crore across all languages as of the afternoon shows, and the number is expected to rise significantly once the night shows are factored in. This figure suggests a solid start, with the film possibly earning close to Rs 7.5 crore on its opening day. The Kannada version of the film alone recorded a strong 66.63% occupancy by the evening shows, indicating a positive response from the audience.
Despite the promising start, UI may not surpass the opening day collection of Upendra's previous release, Kabzaa, which earned over Rs 10 crore. However, the film’s potential is still significant, and it remains to be seen how it performs over the weekend.
India Today’s review of UI describes the film as a visual spectacle, emphasizing its theatrical experience. However, the review also mentions that viewers might need to watch the film multiple times to fully grasp its message-oriented storytelling, suggesting that the film may have a deeper, more thought-provoking narrative that requires more than one viewing to appreciate fully.
Produced by G Manohar and KP Shreekanth under the banner of Lahari Films, and co-produced by Naveen Manohar, who also worked on the VFX, the film boasts impressive production values. The music for UI is composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, adding to the film's grandeur. Along with the Kannada release, UI is also available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, broadening its reach to a wider audience.
With its strong visuals, solid performances, and intriguing story, UI has the potential to attract viewers across various languages and become a hit at the box office, provided it can maintain its momentum in the coming days.
