Chris Martin dedicates a special song to Jasprit Bumrah, who is the star of Coldplay's concert

Indian cricket sensation Jasprit Bumrah surprised fans with his presence at Coldplay’s second concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday, January 26, where he became the center of attention both for the band and the audience. Bumrah, currently recuperating from a back injury, was spotted enjoying a rare moment of relaxation and was warmly embraced by the electrifying atmosphere of the event.

The British band, known for their vibrant performances and connection with Indian audiences, went above and beyond to honor the pace bowler in a memorable and unique way. Chris Martin, Coldplay’s charismatic lead vocalist, addressed Bumrah directly during the concert, drawing deafening cheers from the crowd. In a light-hearted yet touching tribute, the band sang a special rendition:
"O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket."

To elevate the moment further, Coldplay displayed Bumrah's signed Test jersey prominently on stage, a symbolic nod to his incredible achievements in cricket. The gesture was particularly poignant as the concert was held in Bumrah’s hometown, Ahmedabad, adding a layer of emotional connection between the cricketer and the audience.

This wasn’t the first time Coldplay acknowledged Bumrah during their India tour. At their previous concert in Mumbai, the band showcased a video montage of Bumrah’s iconic performances, including his devastating spell against England during the 2024 Test series. The clip was met with thunderous applause, with Indian fans reliving his unforgettable moments on the field. Chris Martin, known for his humorous improvisations, even joked about receiving an "imaginary legal notice" from Bumrah's lawyers for using his name during their performance. Martin read out the faux letter on stage:
"I’m so sorry, but I have to read a letter from Jasprit Bumrah’s lawyer. I must do this, or else we could go to prison and wouldn’t be able to perform in Ahmedabad!"

Building anticipation throughout their India tour, the band subtly referenced Bumrah multiple times, creating excitement that culminated in his live appearance at the Ahmedabad concert. The moment was live-streamed on Hotstar, giving fans across the country a chance to witness Bumrah enjoying the concert. Seeing the cricketer, usually known for his lethal bowling skills, unwind and bask in the music, left fans thrilled. For once, Bumrah traded his cricket ball for a night of melody and celebration, further endearing him to his admirers.

Injury Update and Road to Recovery:

Bumrah, who has been out of action since sustaining a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, remains one of India’s most valuable cricketing assets. The injury forced him to miss the ongoing T20I and ODI series against England, raising concerns among fans about his availability for future tournaments. However, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar shared an encouraging update, stating that Bumrah is expected to regain fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19, 2025. Agarkar noted that Bumrah’s availability for the group-stage matches will depend on his recovery progress, adding that his return will be carefully managed to ensure he remains in peak form.

For now, the concert offered a much-needed break for Bumrah, who has been focused on rehabilitation. Fans took to social media to express their excitement at seeing him in a different light, with many praising Coldplay for their creative tribute to one of cricket’s finest bowlers.

The event was a perfect fusion of sport and music, showcasing how figures like Bumrah transcend boundaries to unite fans across disciplines. Coldplay’s thoughtful nod to Bumrah highlighted his cricketing achievements and his enduring impact on people, both on and off the field. For Indian fans, the moment was a delightful intersection of their love for cricket and music, making it a night to remember.
