Following Windsor, Comet, ZS, JSW MG hopes to energize the market with the M9 and Cyberster

JSW MG Motor India, a prominent player in the country's electric vehicle (EV) market, is set to enhance its lineup with two exciting new models: the Cyberster, India's first all-electric roadster, and the M9, India's first-ever electric three-row presidential limousine. These launches come as part of the company's continuous expansion in the EV segment, following the success of its previous models.

The company made its entry into the Indian automotive market in 2019 with the Hector SUV, but it quickly ventured into the electric vehicle space in 2020 with the launch of the ZS EV, a mid-size electric SUV. In 2023, the company introduced the Comet, an electric microcar, and followed it up with the Windsor, an electric crossover utility vehicle, in 2024. These models have helped the company gain significant traction in the growing EV market.

In terms of sales, JSW MG has shown impressive growth in the EV sector, moving from 1,142 units in 2020 to 28,879 units in 2024. This remarkable sales trajectory reflects the increasing demand for electric vehicles in India, a trend that is expected to continue. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), while the overall passenger vehicle sales in India stood at 42,74,793 units in 2024, electric car sales accounted for around 1,06,000 units, representing 2.5% of the total sales. Industry analysts predict that this number could double by 2026, reaching 200,000 units, signaling a promising future for the EV segment in India.

JSW MG’s upcoming models, the Cyberster and the M9, are poised to play a pivotal role in this transformation. Both models will be part of the company's new luxury brand channel, MG Select, and are expected to be launched in the first half of 2025. Pre-reservations for both vehicles are already open, generating significant excitement in the market.

The Cyberster, an all-electric sports car, is equipped with dual motors that produce a maximum output of 510PS and a peak torque of 725Nm. This performance allows the Cyberster to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The car boasts a 77kWh battery pack, providing a range of over 500km on a single charge. It also features India's first-ever electric scissor doors, marking a significant innovation in the EV market.

On the other hand, the M9 is designed with luxury and comfort in mind, making it the first electric three-row presidential limousine in India. It features reclining ottoman seats in the second row, complete with eight massage modes. Other premium features include a touchscreen armrest, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The M9 will be powered by a 241PS/350Nm motor paired with a 90kWh battery pack, offering a range of approximately 450km on a single charge.

With these new models, JSW MG Motor India is set to make a significant impact on the country's EV market, further solidifying its position as one of the leading manufacturers in the segment. The introduction of high-performance vehicles like the Cyberster and the luxury-focused M9 signals a shift towards more premium and diverse options in the growing electric vehicle ecosystem in India.
