The Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier conducted a Civic Action Programme and free medical camp at Kumari Prathmik Vidyalaya in West Bengal's Nadia district to promote community development, health, and sports among border communities. This initiative comes amid ongoing tensions between the BSF and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) over proposed border fencing in Malda and Nadia districts.
The event was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, DIG, Sector HQ BSF Krishnanagar, and attended by the president of Panchayat Samiti Hanskhali, local school teachers, villagers, and officials from the BSF and Bagula Government Hospital. Residents from nearby villages, including Ramnagar, Kumari, Pakhuria, and Behrampur, participated in large numbers.
A key focus of the programme was encouraging youth engagement in sports and fostering teamwork and discipline. Sports equipment worth ₹2,39,995, including volleyballs, footballs, cricket kits, badminton racquets, and skipping ropes, was distributed to schools and clubs in the region. Beneficiaries included Primary School Pakhiura, Kumari, Ramnagar (Purba Para), Ramnagar Higher Secondary School, and Yuvashakti Club.
In addition, a free medical camp was organised in collaboration with doctors from Bagula Government Hospital and medical staff from the BSF’s 194th Battalion. Around 150 villagers received free medical checkups and medicines, addressing essential healthcare needs in the border communities.
This initiative reflects the BSF's efforts to strengthen ties with border communities by addressing their health and recreational needs, even amid geopolitical challenges in the region.
