India is commemorating its 76th Republic Day with grand celebrations along the Kartavya Path, showcasing the nation's military strength and cultural heritage. This year’s event is particularly significant as it marks the platinum jubilee of the enactment of the Constitution.
The highlight of the celebrations was the presence of Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto, who attended as the chief guest. A 352-member Indonesian marching band contingent also participated in the parade, symbolizing the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, honoring India’s fallen soldiers before the start of the parade.

The parade commenced at 10:30 am, with President Droupadi Murmu taking the salute. Around 10,000 special guests were in attendance, including dignitaries, military personnel, and civilians.

A total of 31 tableaux were displayed, with 16 from states and Union Territories and 15 from central ministries and organizations, following the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India: Heritage and Development).

India’s military prowess was on full display with advanced defence systems such as the BrahMos missile, Pinaka rocket system, Akash air defence system, and new entrants like the Battle Surveillance System ‘Sanjay’ and the DRDO’s Pralay tactical missile. Other highlights included T-90 'Bhishma' tanks, Sarath infantry vehicles, the Nag Missile System, and the Airawat mortar system.

For the first time, the tri-services—Army, Navy, and Air Force—presented a joint tableau, symbolizing unity among India’s armed forces. The DRDO’s tableau, themed ‘Raksha Kavach’, highlighted advanced technologies for multi-domain protection.

The parade featured the legendary 61 Cavalry, the world’s only active horse-mounted cavalry regiment. Women officers from all three services were prominently showcased, representing nari shakti (women’s empowerment).

A stunning motorcycle stunt performance by the daredevils of the Corps of Signals thrilled the crowd and concluded the 90-minute-long parade.

The grand flypast involved 40 aircraft from the Indian Air Force, including C-130J Super Hercules, C-17 Globemaster, and Su-30 fighter jets. The Indian Coast Guard’s Dornier aircraft also participated, enhancing the aerial spectacle.

Over 5,000 artists performed cultural displays along the Kartavya Path, representing India’s rich diversity. A highlight was 300 musicians playing the patriotic tune ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’, with instruments showcasing different parts of the country.

Security in Delhi was heightened, with over 70,000 police personnel and 70 paramilitary companies deployed. The city was covered under a six-layered security arrangement, featuring 2,500 CCTV cameras with facial recognition, anti-drone systems, rooftop snipers, and restricted access to over 200 buildings along the parade route.

Traffic restrictions were meticulously planned to ensure the smooth execution of the event, with Delhi operating under high vigilance to prevent any security concerns.
