The final stage of the historic space race will see Isro dock SpaDeX satellites on Tuesday


India is on the cusp of a groundbreaking achievement as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) prepares for the pivotal docking operation of its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission. Scheduled for January 7, 2025, this highly anticipated mission will see two indigenous satellites, named Chaser and Target, perform a precision docking maneuver in orbit. If successful, this endeavor will firmly establish India as the fourth nation globally—after the United States, Russia, and China—to achieve this advanced capability, marking a significant milestone in the country’s space exploration journey.

The SpaDeX satellites were launched on December 30, 2024, into carefully planned orbits designed to facilitate their gradual approach to one another. Initially separated by a distance of approximately 20 kilometers, the two spacecraft are now engaged in a series of meticulously executed orbital adjustments. Utilizing their onboard propulsion systems, they are systematically reducing this gap to reach the proximity required for docking. As explained by M.
