According to the latest Smurfs trailer, Rihanna is the most stylish Smurfette: When I was blue

Rihanna is set to bring Smurfette to life in the upcoming Smurfs movie, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 18. The first trailer for the highly anticipated animated film was unveiled on February 6, offering fans a glimpse into the whimsical yet action-packed adventure that awaits.

The trailer opens with a tense moment as Papa Smurf, voiced by John Goodman, is abducted, leaving behind a cryptic warning that the Smurf village is no longer safe. This sets the stage for an exciting rescue mission led by Smurfette, who takes charge and rallies her fellow Smurfs for an international adventure. Their journey takes them all the way to Paris, where they face unexpected allies and potential adversaries in their quest to save Papa Smurf.

Apart from showcasing the adventurous storyline, the trailer prominently features music by Rihanna. It includes her 2007 hit Don’t Stop the Music and a snippet of her cover of Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven Is a Place on Earth. The film is expected to include even more new music from the pop icon, building anticipation for what could be her first major musical release in years. Additionally, an original track titled Higher Love by Desi Trill, featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi, adds to the soundtrack’s star-studded lineup.

Originally slated for a February 14 release, Smurfs was pushed back to a July premiere, allowing for a bigger summer launch. In addition to Rihanna and John Goodman, the film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, and Kurt Russell.

With Rihanna’s involvement not only as the voice of Smurfette but also as a contributing musician, Smurfs is shaping up to be a major cinematic event. The film promises a mix of humor, adventure, and nostalgia, making it a must-watch for both longtime Smurf fans and new audiences alike.
