'Aur lado aapas mein' is how Omar Abdullah mocks the AAP-Congress over the Delhi fiasco

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged ahead in the Delhi Assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a pointed jab at his INDIA bloc allies, the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), mocking their impending defeat. The National Conference leader, who has been vocal about his discontent with the opposition alliance’s internal dysfunction, did not hold back as counting trends signaled a crushing loss for both the ruling AAP and the Congress in the national capital.

Taking to social media platform X, Abdullah shared a popular meme along with a sharp caption: "Jee bhar kar lado. Samaapt kardo ek dusre ko!" (Fight to your heart’s content. Finish off each other!). His remark, widely interpreted as a sarcastic dig at the ongoing friction between opposition parties, resonated with many political observers who have long pointed out the lack of coordination within the INDIA bloc.

The timing of Abdullah’s remarks is particularly significant, as tensions within the opposition grouping have steadily escalated since the Lok Sabha elections. In recent weeks, he has openly criticized the alliance's effectiveness, questioning whether it has any real long-term purpose. He had previously stated that if the INDIA bloc was formed merely as an electoral arrangement for the general elections, then it "should be wound up," indicating his growing frustration with the lack of cohesion and a clear roadmap for the future.

The internal cracks within the alliance became even more evident when the Congress and AAP, despite being partners at the national level, decided to contest the Delhi elections separately instead of forming a united front against the BJP. Their failure to coordinate strategies has been cited as one of the reasons behind their lackluster performance, as the BJP capitalized on their disunity to strengthen its hold in the capital.

Abdullah’s latest remarks highlight not only his growing disillusionment with the opposition grouping but also a broader issue that has plagued the INDIA bloc since its inception—conflicting political ambitions and a failure to project a united front against the BJP. His sharp criticism reflects concerns that opposition parties are more focused on individual gains than on mounting a serious challenge to the ruling party.

The lack of cohesion among opposition parties is proving to be a key factor in the BJP’s commanding performance in Delhi. Early trends indicate that the party is on track to end AAP’s reign in the capital and reclaim power after nearly three decades. If these results hold, it would mark a significant political shift in Delhi, further weakening the INDIA bloc’s influence and raising serious questions about its ability to pose a formidable challenge to the BJP in future elections.
