Armie Hammer has finally broken his silence on the infamous cannibalism allegations that led to his downfall in Hollywood. Speaking on the Louis Theroux Podcast, the actor refuted the claims, stating that the leaked messages had been digitally altered and taken out of context. He explained that his provocative texts were part of consensual relationships, influenced by alcohol and drugs, and were never meant to be taken literally.
“Sometimes when you’re involved with a person, and you’re dating and you guys are having sex, and you are a bit of a provocateur, and you are exacerbated by alcohol or drugs or anything like that, it’s fun to ruffle feathers, and it’s fun to push the envelope little by little," Hammer said. However, he strongly denied ever having any real intent behind the graphic messages, adding, “Did I ever have any intention of cutting anything off of anyone or eating anything off of anyone? No.”
The Call Me by Your Name actor acknowledged that his behavior had been problematic but maintained that it was not unlawful. “I would go do something almost exactly the same with someone else. And I left a lot of people in that wake very angry at me for my behavior, which, by the way, I’m not angry. Does it make me a d**k? Absolutely. I have no problem admitting that. That’s not illegal,” he stated.
Hammer’s career took a dramatic nosedive in 2021 when multiple women came forward accusing him of sexual harassment and non-consensual behavior. His leaked texts, which allegedly described violent sexual fantasies, including cannibalism and BDSM, caused widespread outrage. The controversy led to Hammer being dropped from multiple Hollywood projects, including Shotgun Wedding, Billion Dollar Spy, and The Offer.
Following the allegations, an investigation was launched, but no criminal charges were filed against the actor. Hammer largely retreated from public life, reportedly seeking treatment for drug, alcohol, and sex addiction. In 2022, he was spotted in the Cayman Islands, where he was reportedly working as a timeshare salesman after being financially cut off by his family.
Once a rising star in Hollywood, Hammer had built a successful career with films such as The Social Network, Lone Ranger, and Hotel Mumbai. However, his fall from grace remains one of the most shocking scandals in recent Hollywood history. Despite his latest attempt to address the controversy, it remains unclear whether he will ever return to mainstream cinema.
