Terrified Ram Charan might get a female once more: Chiranjeevi was criticized for his misogynistic comments

Chiranjeevi has landed in controversy following remarks he made at the Brahma Anandam pre-release event, where he was the chief guest. The veteran South megastar spoke about his desire for a grandson, emphasizing that he wants a male heir to carry forward his family's legacy. While speaking on stage, Chiranjeevi also joked about feeling like he was in a "ladies' hostel" at home, as he is surrounded by granddaughters. His comments, however, have not gone down well with many, sparking criticism online.

During the event, the actor said, "When I'm at home, it doesn't feel like I'm surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye... I'm scared that he might again have a girl."

Many social media users have expressed disappointment, calling his remarks outdated and sexist. A user on X shared a clip from the event and wrote, "Chiranjeevi is scared his son Ram Charan might have another daughter. In 2025, the obsession with a male heir continues. Disappointing, but not surprising. PS - I have a girl, and I have heard from hundreds of people to give birth to a boy next. It feels horrible when people want us to control things I can’t."

The backlash highlights the ongoing societal pressure in India regarding the preference for male children, a deeply ingrained issue that has persisted for generations. Many netizens have pointed out that comments like Chiranjeevi’s only reinforce outdated patriarchal mindsets, where a son is still seen as a "carrier of the legacy," while daughters are often treated as secondary. Others have questioned why an actor of his stature, who has a massive influence, would make such statements publicly instead of setting an example for progressive thinking.

Ironically, Chiranjeevi had expressed immense joy when Ram Charan and Upasana welcomed their daughter on June 20, 2023. At the time, he had taken to X to share his happiness, writing, "Welcome, Little Mega Princess! You have spread cheer among the Mega Family of millions on your arrival, just as you have made the blessed parents @AlwaysRamCharan & @upasanakonidela and us grandparents happy and proud!!" Many have now pointed out the contradiction between his words then and his statements at the recent event.

As of now, Chiranjeevi has not responded to the controversy or issued any clarification regarding his remarks. While some fans have come to his defense, arguing that his statement was made in a lighthearted manner, others believe that celebrities should be more mindful of their words, especially when addressing sensitive topics related to gender equality.

On the professional front, Chiranjeevi is gearing up for the release of his next big project, Vishwambhara, which has already generated significant buzz among fans. However, the controversy surrounding his recent comments has put him under scrutiny, with many hoping that he will address the criticism and clarify his stance.
