Aakash Chopra believes the upcoming Champions Trophy, starting February 19, could be the final ICC event for India's experienced trio—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja. With the 2027 ODI World Cup still three years away, Chopra feels unlikely that the three senior players will continue in ICC tournaments beyond this year. Their retirement from T20Is after India’s triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup has already fueled speculation about their future in ODIs.
In a recent YouTube video, Chopra highlighted how the Champions Trophy presents an ideal opportunity for the trio to conclude their ICC careers. He pointed out that India failed to qualify for the 2025 World Test Championship final, ruling out another ICC event for the three this year. Since they have already stepped away from T20Is, the 2026 T20 World Cup is not in their plans either. With the 2027 ODI World Cup feeling too distant, Chopra believes this might be their final ICC outing.
At 36, Kohli and Jadeja, along with the 37-year-old Rohit, have been crucial figures in Indian cricket for over a decade. Their records in ICC tournaments are impressive, and despite concerns over Test performances, they showcased their prowess in India's recent ODI series win over England. Kohli, known for his remarkable consistency, remains key to India’s middle order, while Rohit, who led India to T20 World Cup glory, will look to finish his ICC career on a high. Jadeja, with his all-round abilities, continues to be a game-changer.
India, aiming for their third Champions Trophy title, will rely on the trio’s leadership and experience as they begin their campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh. Whether or not this will be their final ICC event remains uncertain, but if it is, they will look to make a lasting impact on the global stage.
