Bollywood actor Vidya Balan has become the latest victim of an AI-generated deepfake video. She took to social media to warn her fans about misleading AI-generated clips featuring her, which have been widely circulated on platforms like WhatsApp. She made it clear that anything being said in those videos "should not be attributed to her" and urged people to be cautious about such manipulated content.
In the fake video, Vidya Balan is seen and heard introducing herself, saying, "Hey, main hoon aap sabki favourite Vidya Balan..." However, to alert her followers, the Parineeta actor stamped the video with a bold ‘Scam Alert’ warning, making it clear that the content was fabricated. The lip movements in the clip also appear unnatural, further indicating the video’s inauthenticity.
Sharing a snippet of the manipulated clip on her Instagram, Vidya wrote, "There are multiple videos currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp, which appear to feature me. However, I want to clarify that these videos are AI-generated and completely inauthentic." She went on to emphasize that she had no involvement in the creation or distribution of these clips and that she did not endorse their content in any manner. Urging people to stay vigilant, she added, "Any claims made in these videos should not be attributed to me, as they do not reflect my views or work. I request everyone to verify the information before sharing and be cautious of misleading AI-generated content."
Vidya Balan is not the first Bollywood celebrity to be targeted by deepfake technology. Previously, actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, and Aamir Khan have also been victims of such digitally altered videos. With AI-powered misinformation on the rise, celebrities are increasingly speaking out against deepfake manipulation and urging stricter regulations to curb the misuse of technology.
On the professional front, Vidya Balan was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the highly anticipated horror-comedy sequel. The film, which also featured Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit, was a major box office success. Fans continue to admire Vidya for her versatility and strong screen presence, and she remains one of Bollywood’s most celebrated performers.
