Free IPL 2025 viewing: Reliance releases new subscription deals for JioHotstar

The Indian Premier League's 2025 season is all set to begin on March 21, with an electrifying opener between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. As cricket fever builds up, Reliance Jio has announced an exciting offer that ensures millions of fans won’t miss a single moment of the action. Through the newly launched JioHotstar platform — a merger between Reliance’s digital services and Disney’s Hotstar — fans can stream the IPL for free by subscribing to specific Jio recharge plans.

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator by user base, made the announcement on Monday, March 17, confirming that recharges of Rs 299 and above will unlock free IPL access for the entire season, lasting from March 22 to May 25. This move aims to keep cricket enthusiasts connected to the game without having to pay extra for streaming subscriptions, offering seamless access to the highly anticipated tournament.

The newly integrated JioHotstar platform represents a significant shift from the previous JioCinema setup, which allowed completely free IPL streaming in 2023 and 2024. In this revamped model, the Reliance-Disney collaboration has opted for a hybrid approach — users will get free access up to a certain content threshold, after which subscriptions may apply. This approach strikes a balance between retaining users with free content and introducing a premium tier to drive revenue growth.

For those eager to catch the IPL live, Jio has outlined a clear, straightforward path to eligibility:

  • Existing Jio users: A recharge of Rs 299 or higher with at least 1.5GB of daily data is required to activate the free streaming offer.
  • New Jio users: Purchase a new Jio SIM, activate it with a Rs 299 or higher plan, and enjoy IPL access immediately.
  • Users with an active recharge before March 17: No need to miss out — simply purchase a Rs 100 add-on data pack to unlock IPL streaming.

The recharge or SIM purchase must be completed between March 17 and March 31 for users to qualify for the free IPL streaming deal.

But Jio’s strategy doesn’t stop there. To sweeten the deal, the telecom giant is also offering a 50-day trial of its high-speed broadband service — a move designed to encourage more users to explore its home internet offerings. This ensures that IPL fans can enjoy the matches without buffering or interruptions, especially as more viewers shift to larger screens and home setups for an enhanced viewing experience. By bundling broadband trials with its cricket-centric promotion, Jio is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for sports entertainment and internet services.

The hybrid content model reflects a broader industry shift. Earlier this year reports from Reuters hinted that the Reliance-Disney joint venture would move away from providing completely free IPL access — a tactic that drove massive user adoption in previous seasons. This year’s structure balances user acquisition with monetization, keeping the core IPL experience free while nudging users toward premium upgrades after crossing a viewing threshold.

For Reliance Jio, this move isn’t just about cricket. It’s a long-term play to dominate India’s evolving digital entertainment landscape. The IPL remains a cultural juggernaut — millions tune in from metros to small towns, making it the perfect event to capture a wide audience. By linking IPL streaming with its recharge plans and broadband trials, Jio effectively ties cricket enthusiasm to its broader telecom and internet ecosystem.

Cricket, especially the IPL, has always been more than a sport in India — it’s a national celebration. Whether you’re a die-hard Mumbai Indians fan or cheering for Chennai Super Kings, the ability to watch the matches live without an extra subscription fee will resonate deeply with viewers. Jio’s offer not only makes IPL more accessible but also positions the company as a champion of affordable, high-quality digital entertainment.

As the IPL countdown begins, millions of fans will undoubtedly be reaching for their phones — not just to cheer on their favorite teams but to ensure they’ve grabbed the right Jio plan to stream the action for free. With the merger of Jio and Disney’s Hotstar creating an enhanced viewing experience, 2025’s IPL promises to be bigger, bolder, and more accessible than ever. The only question now is: which team are you rooting for?
